Recent Events

Anyway, I was recently busy and exhausted.

When I drove to go shopping alone, I found out surprising incident about my car!
It was smoke and a bad smell.
It caused of the emergency brake.
I forgot to release it before driving.
I can supposedly drive now!?
But I'm worried about it, so I have to go to the repair shop to check it out.

I go to ESL in Summer Quarter.
I take Intermediate class, Pronunciation&Grammar and Writing&Reading.
These classes is harder than ones in Spring Quarter.
Especially, Intermediate class is the hardest of all.
But the teacher of this class teaches us as a volunteer.
Furthermore, she is in a vacation!
She teaches English at other times at the university in France.
And when the summer vacation comes, she goes to America every year.
Then, this year, she becomes my teacher!
I'm appreciate such her thought.
So I have to study harder.
She always gives a lot of homework to us.
Of course, I will do my homework till the next class...it will be on Thursday.

What recently happened?
I forgot other events.
I will have something else to have to do.

The Hottest Day

It was extreme heat today more than yesterday.
According to the weather forecast, high temperatures was 38 degrees in Seattle!
Only watching the number, it seems to be suffer from the summer heat.
But I didn't feel temperatures exceeded 30 degrees.
I think, because humidity level is low in Seattle.

Even so, when I went outside, I felt to expose to heavy ultraviolet light.
So I want to put up a parasol.

I think that American people don't put up a parasol,
but I saw a woman putting it up today!
...It was not a parasol but an umbrella.
In Seattle, I rarely see the parson putting an umbrella on rainy days.
The weather must be exceptionally hot in Seattle.
But I'm happy that beer and ice cream tastes better!
The size of these ice cream are too big!
And my favorite eating ice cream is to sprinkle the chocolate syrup on it.
The chocolate syrup gets hard like a shell after that.

My 30th Birthday!

At last, I'm 30 years old last Friday; June 29.

I looked back in my 20's yesterday, I imagine myself doing when I'm 31, 35...40 today!!!
I spent a fun time talking about passing days and coming days with my husband.
Time flies very fast, but we have only limited time.
So I'd like to enjoy my life.

He gave me a champagne!!! I love this!
This one that he chose is;
*LOUIS ROEDERER
BRUT PREMIER
produce of France

By the way, I recently think that I'm getting old.
I seem I'm losing my strength of the body and my body shape is obviously changing.
...I want to be forever young.
Though inside face is very important, in women, appearance is, too.
Well, The best is both is matching.
All the same, I don't want to get older...
This is...It's a woman's prerogative never to be satisfied with her age.
He gave me a birthday card with or without my such a knowledge, too.
It caused a laugh!
Look at under the picture of this card.
I can understand so much how their feels are.
Oi! I wish I were 20 again!
Thanks for his kindness!
And thank everyone who gave messages for me!

The Last Day in 20's

I spent today as I spent every other day, making the breakfast and lunch box for my husband, then washing dishes(only setting them on the dishwasher), washing clothes, going to ESL, watching TV, and cooking dinner...
Now I'm updating my blog.

Today is my last day in 20's.
I will be 30 years old tomorrow!!!
Oh...I can't believe it.
I can't say I'm 20's yet.
I feel a bit happy and a bit sad now.
When my birthday came every year, I looked back at the year, and thought how I spend in the new year.
But it seems this year is different from the past every years.
I'm looking back at my 20's.
Going out into the world, Working, earning, and developing into adults.
And marriage, living in Seattle.
There were many things in my 20's.

Would anything happen in future?
I'm looking forward to knowing various things little by little.

The Pride Parade

~excerpt from Seattle Times~

The Pride Parade — that almost wasn't this year — sashayed and strutted its way through downtown Sunday, proving yet again to be a dazzling celebration of Seattle's gay and lesbian culture.

Before thousands of cheering onlookers, Dykes on Bikes led the way, roaring and honking down Fourth Avenue to Denny Way in leather jackets and jeans and, sometimes, fishnet stockings.

The two-hour parade in its 33rd year had 150 entries and gave no obvious hint of the behind-the-scene financial troubles that threatened to shut it down.

Earlier this year, the Pride Parade's sponsor Seattle Out & Proud said it would have to cancel the event. The group didn't want to incur any more debt, given that it still owed approximately $100,000 to the city of Seattle for last year's Pride Celebration at Seattle Center.

But the decision was reversed within hours.

Meanwhile, another group — Seattle's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center — staged its QueerFest and march on Saturday on Capitol Hill, the gay community's historical heart.

On Sunday, the crowd's preferences were all over the map — some favored a parade on Capitol Hill, as a more intimate, homey setting. Others liked the ambience of downtown skyscrapers as a more in-your-face location.

Sister Charity Case said: "I feel proud to know I'm a voice in the community. ... It doesn't matter whether it's on Capitol Hill or downtown."

In the end, the result for Seattle was an entire weekend bursting with Pride.

"This weekend has been an amazing event," said Troy Campbell, spokesperson for Seattle Out and Proud. "This city can support it all."

Sunday's events included a PrideFest at Seattle Center with food, booths and music, presented by One Degree Events. The Pride celebration, like others held at this time of year nationwide, marks the 1969 Stonewall Riots in New York that launched the gay-rights movement in the United States.

In the first years after, gay parades were small, protected and protested, one observer said. By contrast Sunday's event felt almost mainstream with some participants from Macy's, Starbucks, Seattle Public Utilities and politicians running for office.

"I was around during Stonewall. I like seeing the difference over the years," said Mariann Crow, 54, who used to live in New York.

The parade is also a great way to show the younger generation of gays that "they can be out and proud," another onlooker said.

David and Nan Miller, from Rockford, Ill., were visiting Seattle to celebrate the birth of their straight son's child. And they came to Sunday's parade at the invitation of their other son, who is gay and also lives in Seattle with his partner.

"We've gone to the gay parades in Chicago," Nan Miller said. "It was a lot more fun here."

Not everyone liked what they saw.

A man, who happened to be walking by with his family, stopped and stared. "I am not from a big town," he said. "This is a little over the edge."

Protesters, who identified themselves as Christians, shouted about scriptures and God's will.

Among them was a man who stood on an upside-down crate waving a sign that read "The wicked will not inherit the Kingdom," and yelled out "Shame on You. Adam and Eve. Not Adam and Steve."

His sentiments were overpowered by the noise.

The alternative

What should I do...?

ESL Spring Quarter will finish this weekend.
Until now, ESL that I've joined is two; Seattle Language Academy and Literacy Source.

First, I went to SLA.
But when I joined the class in SLA, it was suitable for high-level students, and there was only the class.
Even though Adviser recommended to continue studying there for me, I decided to keep until they have a class that is suitable for me.

Next, I could find the present ESL as soon as I started to look for another ESL.
It is Literacy Source.
This ESL is free; furthermore, they have many classes, and it is close to my apartment.
American Mailbox is blue.
SLA adviser let me know about their next session today.
She told me that they will have two classes, and one class level will be lower than before.
So she recommended to join it for me.
Oh!
I already reserved classes in the next Summer Quarter in the present ESL just today morning!
I have to choose which is better just now.

So...what should I do?
But I know what I'm trying to do.
I'd like to go to Literacy Source!
What should I say and refuse to join it?
It's difficult.
I mean, I'd like to join SLA again at some time.
I will consider how to explain my thought.

Downtown Seattle

I rode a bus from the suburbs to downtown for shopping yesterday.
I'd like to look for pants, and scissors for haircut.
But I couldn't buy both.
variety of Rachel
First I went to Uwajimaya which has many Japanese goods.
I intended to buy the scissors there.
But it was sold out...
Next I looked for pants around downtown.
I went to PACIFIC PLACE, MACY'S, NORDSTROM which is the department store.
Then ABERCROMBIE & FITCH,
BANANA REPUBLIC, GAP and so on.
Anyway I scouted out good pants.
But any ones were not my size.
It was too big and long...
Bubble tea break!
Bubble tea is what Milk tea contains black large tapioca,
Taiwanese drink.
I was tired from walking, then I gave up to look for pants...
Oh well, I will try again sometime soon!
When I go shopping in the US, I'm given an illusion of being slim!

Where is Safeway?

Today something made me happy.
That was very simple.

When I went shopping at QFC in University Village which is big shopping mall, I was spoken by a stranger.
She asked me the way to go to Safeway.
I was surprised at her, I mean, I'm like a stranger too.
But I have gone to the grocery store.
Then I managed to explain how to go there to her, sometimes by means of gestures.
She said thanks to me.
That was nothing more, nothing less.
But somehow I was happy.
I don't think that I got speaking and listening to English better, But it seems to get used to Seattle life!?
But I think I haven't seen anything yet.
There is a long way to go...

Pike Place Market Street Festival
〜Saturday, June 2nd and Sunday, June 3rd, 2007

Join us on Saturday, June 2nd and Sunday, June 3rd, 2007 for the 35th annual Pike Place Market Street Festival. Long a favorite of Seattleites and Market devotees, the 2007 Festival will be a celebration of the Market's Centennial year! Included in the festivities: live music, handmade crafts, chef demonstrations, a wine and beer garden, and a parade to kick off the revival of our 2001 success, Pigs on Parade (POP), featuring 100 artist-adorned, fiberglass porcine wonders in the likeness of our piggybank, Rachel!

All proceeds raised during the Festival will directly benefit those served by the Market community's human service agencies: Pike Market Medical Clinic, Senior Center, Child Care & Preschool and Downtown Food Bank.

ESL Spring Quarter

Spring Quarter of ESL is coming to an end.
I joined the ESL in the middle of Spring Quarter.
The classes which I have liked are Pronunciation & Grammar class and Reading Tools for life class.

The teacher is Jennifer in Pronunciation & Grammar class.
She is very good at teaching English to us.
And it's fun.
So I'm sad her class is near to finish.
There is no her class in the next Summer Quarter.

The teacher is Alece in Reading Tools for life class.
She is kind to me to teach English.
Good point of this class is to have one-on-one contact with the teacher.
There is her class in the Summer Quarter, So I'd like to join it.

The other ESL which I have reserved will begin on June 18.
I'm going to join the ESL too.
So I'm likely to be busy.
But it must be amusing!

It will be June tomorrow.
How fast time passes!
It will take 2 months since I came to Seattle.

This is an incense case which I was given by my friends when I left Japan on March.
Exotic aroma refreshes me.

OTOKOMAE TOFU TEN

I heard that OTOKOMAE TOFU TEN recently opened a store in the US.
My friend who lives in Japan told me that the other day.
I was surprised at the news.
I examined if they had stores in Seattle as soon as I heard that.
But I knew that OTOKOMAE TOFU TEN was in New york, Los Angeles and so on.
There wasn't in seattle yet.
Really?

So I tried to refer to OTOKOMAE TOFU TEN!
Wow〜!
Could I get OTOKOMAE TOFU in Seattle?
If not, do you have any plans in the future?

Then I received the answer from OTOKOMAE TOFU TEN.
They don't have the shop in Seattle now as expected.
But they say that they will consider whether they open a shop in Seattle.
So I will get OTOKOMAE TOFU in Seattle someday.
I hope it!

By the way, I love Kazenifurarete Tofuya Johnny, OTOKOMAE Tofu and Ganmo Bancho especially!

Desperate Housewives final!

Desperate Housewives of season3 was final a week ago last Sunday at last or rather without realizing.
I enjoyed watching it every week.
I thought that the final episode finished as always.

But the last was repeated.
I didn't realize it was repeated at first.
Oh! How silly I was...!
It didn't make sense while watching it.
Well, the end was happy.
That was it.
Because Susan married Mike at last!

I am very concerned about other people too.
How Edie will be from now?

How Bree, Gabriell and Lynette's couple?
I want to know the continuance as soon as possible!

Season4 will start
on September 23, 2007.
I can hardly wait for it.

I received the DVD of season1 from Amazon last week.
It was too late. It takes 2weeks since I ordered it! I can't believe it.
Anyway, so I had watched it all last week.
I had watched all episodes of season1.
How fun it was!
I ordered the DVD of season2 as soon as I watched all.
I'm looking forward to receive it!

Squirrel and Strawberry

This is my flowerbed beside the deck.
There are Strawberry, herb, vegetable and so on.
I planted only herb and vegetable on April.
Strawberry was always there.
Recently Strawberry began to produce berries.
But those berries are very very small. They are pretty.

I seemed that they was decreasing in number.
I thought nothing of that since I wasn't going to eat them.
Look!
A Squirrel!
What dose the squirrel do?
Now I can work out!
Squirrel is cause of decreasing berries.

It was looking for something.
And it took a red berry, then ate it.
Almost!
I just missed taking a picture at the decisive moment.
I knew that squirrel eats not nuts but strawberry, in addition only red one.
Oh, yeah!?
And this is peas which I planted.
It grows larger too.
It seems that squirrel doesn't like it.
It's good!

Spring Colors

It's warm today, really springlike weather.
I took these pictures on the way back from ESL.

Farewell

My friend is supposed to go back to her country on this Sunday.
I'll miss you a lot...

I got to know her at the ESL where I began to go for the first time on April.
And as it happens, we have taken the same class in the present ESL.

She is from Korea, has been for 2years in Seattel.
She worked and studied English after her work until this April.
When I first saw her, of course, she can speak English fluently.
She speaks not only English but also Chinese, Japanese, of course and Korean.
I was amazed to hear that.
I wondered why she could speak 4languages, and tried her best.
She said that she loved making a journey abroad, so studing foreign languages was fun.
I like travels abroad too.
But it is difficult for me to study only English...
How great she is!
She has been to Japan for several months.
She is good at speaking Japanese too.
When we was talking, we spoke in English and Japanese.
So I could tell her about something to say.
If I get to speak English better than now, I will talk to her more...

I was happy to meet her in Seattle.
From now, I'm going to e-mail to her!
Absolutely, in English!
I gave her Seattle photo collection with my message.

Reading Tools for Life

I began to take another class in which sutudents learn about Reading Tools for Life.
Though I took this class, I didn't know what I should do until I went there.
The other day, I was recommended this class by my friend who is Jhon, Korean.
I got to know her in the other ESL on April.
She is good at speaking foreigin languages, English, Japanese and Chinese.
I could say that she is quartetlingual!
That's great too much.

Then this class started today.
There were only 4 students in this class.
What do we do here?

First we choiced the book for each. There were many levels of books.
And I listened to recorded story with the computer.
Then I read the story to the teacher aloud as sound recording,
at the last I told her about the story's digest.
So I could learn English one on one.
I think that this class is good to practice reading, speaking, pronunciation, and communicating with English speaker.

Today I was praised by teachers(there are two teachers in this class).
They said,
"You are good at reading! So next week, you should try the highest levels, right?"
I can read and understand books. I know, I know.
But I'm not sure how to exprain what I want to say.
Other students can speak English very well, but they can't read books.
They must think that it's strange not to speak English though I can read and understand books easily.
How interesting it is!
Recentry, Daytime get longer than before.
I took this picture at 9pm or later.
